When I retired from
the Navy and made the decision to be a golf teaching
professional, I never knew the impact it would have on my life
and the lives of those around me.
This is where the
USGTF helped me out. They opened doors that I couldn’t. When
someone looks at my resume now, they will see that the USGTF
stands behind me and be reassured that I have been trained and
meet the standards required to be a competent golf teaching
professional.
I was certified
in 2002, and since then I’ve taught for a nationwide golf school
and became the assistant to the head professional at a great
course in Moreno Valley, California. I’ve just moved to Winlock,
Washington, where I will run my own golf school and hold the
position of head teaching professional at one of the local
courses here. I’ve also became a certified club builder to make
myself more marketable.
My golf school is
designed mainly for kids. One of the most valuable lessons this
game has taught me is that you can change someone’s life with
just one lesson. One helpful suggestion, a compliment or a
little encouragement can open up a whole new world for them to
explore. Golf can teach them some of life’s most valuable
lessons. Who knows, it could even save a life. That’s what I try
to do, one lesson at a time. Funny thing is, they think they’re
just getting a golf lesson.
